Yellow Ribbon has been a symbol of commemoration Sewol ferry incident in Korea. We express our sorrow with the ribbon and prey for all the young students who had to died. Regardless of who you are, we often brings yellow ribbon or badge to remember. So I thought what if we have an app that makes you bring the ribbon easily and take and photos with the ribbon to share your condolences whenever you want.

YRAR (Yellow Ribbon Augmented Reality) / 노란 리본 증강현실은 세월호 추모 3주기를 추모하기 위해 뉴욕의 디자이너/아티스트 단체 K/REATE (대표 이상인)가 제작한 모바일 애플리케이션입니다. 저희 K/REATE는 세월호 사건이 발생 이후로 ‘Cheer Up Korea’ 프로젝트 및 ‘세월호 추모 2주기 공동작품’ 등을 통해 뉴욕에서도 한국의 아픔을 통감하고자 여러 프로젝트를 매년 진행해 왔습니다. 

2017년의 세월호 3주기 추모 프로젝트를 위해 9명의 K/REATE 아티스트들 (강윤정, 김연지, 김지원, 김카누, 박종하, 이상인, 장윤지, 조항록, 허세나)과 디지털 아티스트들(김세현, 이상인)이 힘을 모았습니다. 증강현실에서 K/REATE 아티스트들이 제작한 콜라보레이션 리본 작품을 감상할 수 있고, 사용자들이 작품과 함께 사진도 찍어 소셜 미디어에 공유할 수 있는 모바일 애플리케이션을 제작하였습니다.

I decided to make an app with the digital version of yellow ribbon and ribbons with customized art works in it. For the 4th anniversary of the tragedy, I was able to gathered a group of creatives who are willing to do the art works. 

We carefully picked meaningful locations in NY and Seoul that we want to share with the students if they were still alive. If user goes the locations, they could unlock these special ribbons they can use.
